Beautifully Broken

Raise your hand if you are constantly feeling like you DON’T have it all figured out!! It stings doesn’t it? That tiny admission that, try as you might, you fail over and over again at this thing called life. I know the feeling and, trust me when I say, you are in good company because, if there is one thing that I have learned this year, it’s that we are all failing. Nobody has it all figured out. They may pretend they do. They might even believe they do from time to time, present company included. But everybody struggles. Everybody has awful days when they feel lost or suffocated by the burdens they are carrying. Everybody feels broken at some point in their life.

But here is the beauty in being broken: the more broken you are, the more your light shines through….. If you allow it.

Whatever you are going through right now is sharpening you to be a better version of yourself. Don’t let the trials you go through be for nothing. I know that sometimes the hard times seem impossibly hard. And we live in an age where we compare ourselves to everyone else’s highlight reels. But, if you are going through it right now, I challenge you to sit in that negative space. Feel the pain. That pain you feel will not destroy you. You can rise above it. Feel that pain and get up every single day and keep showing up no matter what. That is what getting stronger feels like.

Often times, my husband gets so frustrated with me because I always say, “everything will be ok.” I say it because I know it will be. Not because I think that everything will magically fix itself, but because I know that I will never give up; that he will never give up; that God will never give up. So no matter what trial we are going through, my attitude is always a positive one. That doesn’t mean I don’t feel the pain, the stress, or the anxiety. It doesn’t mean that I ignore what we are going through. It means that no matter the pain I feel, I know it’s temporary. I dig deep, I feel that pain in the pit of my stomach. And I keep moving forward. And as I move forward in pain, I look for the joy in life and I cling to one simple truth: If God is bringing me to it, He will get me through it. And this has never failed me.

I am not perfect. My life is not perfect. And I certainly DO NOT have everything all figured out. In fact, anytime I start to think I do, I’m swiftly reminded of the truth that I am not in control of what happens around me, I am only in control of my reaction to it. This World may break me down and bring me to my knees, but I will never let it dim my light.

We were created with a purpose. Each one of us is uniquely designed with a special personality, talents, and gifts. The World wants you to believe that you aren’t special and that what you have been through in life takes away from your value. But that could not be further from the truth! We were made to shine. We were made, not to survive in times of chaos, but to thrive. If you have a fire in your heart, don’t smother it with the pains from everyday life…. light up the darkness. Live your purpose. We were made to be more not in spite of, but because we are beautifully broken.
